Mediation FAQs

Check out our FAQs page to see frequently asked questions if you'd like to learn more.

Mediation is a process that uses an impartial third-party to help you try to resolve a conflict with another person.

A mediator does not impose a decision; rather, he or she will help facilitate a discussion between two parties. The responsibility and authority for reaching an agreement remain with you and the other person. BYU students living in BYU-contracted housing and their landlords are required by contract to make a good-faith effort to resolve their disputes through mediation at the CPCR. The CPCR is available to mediate other, non-housing disputes, but because there is not a contractual requirement, both parties must be willing to participate. If you have any questions about whether your dispute could be mediated through the CPCR, please contact our office.
